The prime minister's address comes a day after the two leaders shared the stage at a grand event in Houston and displayed close friendship and a common vision on fighting terrorism. Mr Trump delivered a speech that risks being viewed as siding with India in its dispute with Pakistan, two countries that he has offered to mediate between, though India has rebuffed the offer.

Meanwhile, President Trump, on Monday, attended the UN Climate Change summit and became a spectator while the Indian Prime Minister delivered a speech on India's bid for climate protection.

A strict lockdown and communications blackout was imposed in the region that has snapped off ordinary people's internet and mobile telephone service across much of occupied Kashmir.
