Patriots to sign tight end Eric Tomlinson

The 31-year-old wideout signed a deal with the New England Patriots in the offseason, was released during final roster cuts on August 31, re-signed with the Pats on September 2, was inactive Week 1 due to a hamstring injury and finally traded to NY on September 10. He told the New York Daily News on Wednesday that he was insulted to be jettisoned by New England when it needed a roster spot to sign Antonio Brown, who was released by the Patriots less than two weeks later.

"It was insulting, for sure", Thomas told the newspaper. When they re-signed me, I was thinking that I was good. "It's been a whirlwind couple of weeks, I'm glad to be back, glad to be preparing for another opponent".

Coach Bill Belichick defended the Patriots' actions, saying they had full plans on keeping Thomas around, but circumstances changed. "I have a ton of respect for him, very professional and did everything we asked him to do", Belichick said Thursday, via NESN.

While he wasn't angry with the way the deal went down, Thomas did say he felt it was "disrespectful" to trade him so shortly after he re-signed. "It is what it is".

Thomas was initially signed by the Patriots back in April, and he was briefly released at the beginning of September before they brought him back.

Thomas seems happy enough to be with the Jets now.

"Coach [Belichick] came up to me and was like, 'Uh, we got too many guys".

"We understand that this is a must-win for us, that's how we're going about it", he said. Ain't no reason to yell. The Patriots have also been stout at stopping the run, as they are No. 3 in the league in rushing yards (442) and rushing touchdowns (3) allowed.

Claimed off waivers this season by the Giants on September 1, Tomlinson, 27, played seven offensive snaps in three games for them before being released on September 24. I was only trying to be a part of something that was going to be good when I was there... "I apologize to my teammates for any distraction this may have caused", Bennett said in a statement. And I stayed. I could have easily become a Jet once I got cut.
