With George having just returned November 14 following surgeries on both of his shoulders and Leonard sitting the past three games, the Clippers haven't had any practice time with the two in their starting lineup.
After missing the first few weeks of the season while recovering from shoulder surgery, George has now appeared in three straight games, but the Clippers have been without Kawhi Leonard for each of those contests, as he's battled soreness in his knee. "It's still tough. We are both kind of on a minute restriction; hard to get into a flow". "The great thing about myself and Kawhi is it doesn't matter, we're going to play basketball". But just knowing plays and each other's spots and the language on the defensive end [will help]. We're really good with only PG.
It was a wild and sloppy game for both teams.
LA had a season-high 23 turnovers.
"That was an ugly win, but it was lovely", Clippers coach Doc Rivers said.
Kemba tried to tie it at the buzzer, but Kawhi blocked his 3-point attempt to close it out.
"The problem", Stevens said, "is that guy's not normal". Brown finished with nine points in 39 minutes, shooting 3 for 14 from the field and 1 for 8 from three. He tries to talk and make you get technical fouls.
"I thought he, literally, single-handedly willed that game with his effort", Rivers said of Beverley, who was a recipient of a rare game ball.
Tatum's basket left the Celtics down by three.
Williams connected on a go-ahead three-pointer with 31.7 seconds left and added two free throws 11 seconds later to give the Clippers a 97-94 lead. With the crowd on its feet shouting 'Defence! Leonard missed a potential winning 3-pointer as time expired.
Boston missed 17 of 18 3-pointers in the first half. But the Clippers responded with a 10-0 run led by Williams and Beverley, taking a 3-point lead. Not a huge lead by any means, but at the rate LA was scoring in this game, it felt like they had a mountain to climb.
That's when the Celtics kicked in from long range, with Tatum hitting back-to-back 3-pointers and Walker following with another.
Tatum had 6 in the extra period, but George and Beverley combined for 10.
Celtics: They dominated in the paint, 52-32. Leonard also registered 17 points, six rebounds and one arena-shaking dunk over Daniel Theis.
Clippers: Their bench outscored the Celtics' reserves 43-29.
"That's Finals MVP", George said. "He knows when it's time to take over".
The Clippers had just one shootaround rehearsal with Leonard and George walking through together in the starting unit, and that came on the morning of Wednesday's tilt. George had been kept around 28-30 since returning. "But I am very excited".
Celtics: At Denver on Friday to end a five-game Western swing. Patrick Beverley corralled a career-best 16 rebounds to go along with 14 points and seven assists, and JaMychal Green added 10 points as Los Angeles won their third straight game.
