The original cast returned. Yeah, that was re-created, too, with Elliott's kids this time around. Today reports that the short film, titled "A Holiday Reunion", premiered during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

He runs toward E.T., exclaiming: "You came back!"

It's been 37 years since the release of "E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial". You may remember him more recently as one of the stars of Netflix's hit horror series 'The Haunting of Hill House'. He had a pivotal role in Doctor Sleep too. "I'll be right here", E.T. tells Elliott, placing a finger on the young boy. Grown-up Elliott comes outside to introduce his alien friend to his son, daughter (Alvia Drews) and wife (Julianne Hoyak). Now, where's Gertie (Drew Barrymore)? "It's really a win-win", said Thomas in a statement.

That long-awaited sequel to E.T. These days Spielberg is busy directing West Side Story and launching new shows on AppleTV.

The ad was directed by Lance Acord, cinematographer on such films as Lost in Translation and Adaptation. Watch the E.T. Christmas commercial below.

Now, nearly 40 years later, E.T. and his old pal Elliott finally reunited - in a new commercial for Xfinity.

Jeff Goodby, co-chairman of the ad firm Goodby, Silverstein & Partners added, "People don't care about technology inherently".

Although technology has changed our world since they last saw each other, their friendship remains strong and is a touching reminder of how important reconnecting is at Christmas. "It's a flawless story for the holidays at a time when our emotions are very close to the surface".
