The Knicks fired head coach David Fizdale on Friday and are widely expected to move on from president Steve Mills as well.
Knicks head coach David Fizdale was sacked in just his second year with the franchise Friday afternoon following an eight-game losing skid.
NY lost eight consecutive games, including a 129-92 blowout loss to the Denver Nuggets on Thursday night that dropped the team to 4-18 this season.
Fizdale, who had previously served as the head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies, finished with a 21-83 record in NY.
For weeks, Fizdale has been walking a razor's edge.
"Assistant coach Mike Miller has been named interim head coach".
After not lasting two seasons in his last job with the Grizzlies, Fizdale chose the Knicks job in 2018 over several other offers - including Atlanta, Charlotte and Phoenix. After his retirement, he worked as a player development coach with the South Bay Lakers, the G League affiliate of the Los Angeles Lakers.
A Hammon hiring would be yet another milestone set by the former New York Liberty guard as she would become the first female head coach in the league's history.
The Knicks next play at home against the Indiana Pacers on Saturday before heading West on a four-game road trip. The Knicks' 4-18 mark is the worst in the Eastern Conference and is tied for the worst record in franchise history.
One would have to look back to 1999 to find the last time the Knicks made it to an NBA Finals and all the way back to the '70s for a championship win.
