Text messages from previous year, released by the House this month, indicated that Lutsenko agreed to provide Parnas with damaging information related to former vice president Joe Biden if the Trump administration recalled the ambassador.
The White House has commented saying every president has the right to place people in his administration who support his agenda and his policies.
President Donald Trump was caught on tape during a dinner in 2018 with Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman demanding the dismissal of Marie Yovanovitch, who was then the American ambassador to Ukraine, according to a lawyer for Parnas.
The dinner has been the subject of inquiry by NY federal prosecutors, who in October charged Parnas and Fruman with campaign-finance violations. "You do have to be able to see through the wall, I think", Trump says. He said he brought Parnas back to his "cloud" and Parnas found the audio. The Trump tapes and reports of Pompeo's meltdown emerged even as Democratic House managers wound up their presentation in the impeachment trial in the US Senate, leaving the floor for Republican defence starting on Saturday.
If the recording is authentic, it would bolster Democrats' argument that Trump associates spent almost a year trying to oust the ambassador, Marie Yovanovitch, because they saw her as an obstacle in their efforts to pressure Ukraine into investigating Trump's political rival Joe Biden. Jack Nicklaus III, the grandson of the golf icon, and NY real estate developer Stanley Gale also attended the event for a pro-Trump group.
Pressed by Fox News' Raymond Arroyo about whether Parnas "might've been at a table you were at, a function", Trump responded, "Sure". In October 2019, Trump called on China to investigate Biden and his son, ABC News reported at the time, saying, "China should start an investigation into the Bidens". Parnas has released multiple photographs showing him with not just Trump but his children and grandchildren. The benign explanation is that he was asking the ambassador to be fired when he told an aide to "get rid of her" and "take her out".
"First, the Vice President said he knew nothing about it, but the State Department knew about it because they were concerned when people were being put up for confirmation that that issue might arise".
In November, federal prosecutors questioned Bondy about whether his client had been operating on behalf of Ukrainians at the dinner with Trump when Parnas said the ambassador was bad-mouthing the President, according to people familiar with the matter. "I have a right to hire and fire ambassadors, and that's a very important thing", Trump said.
Parnas had recounted the conversation in media appearances last week. Don't know what he's about, don't know where he comes from, know nothing about him. The second article of impeachment accuses President Trump of obstructing Congress by refusing to turn over documents or allow officials to testify in the House probe. Trump has stated often that he does not know either Parnas or Fruman. Both have pleaded not guilty.
