The Memphis Grizzlies were on their way to a victory over the New York Knicks when all hell nearly broke loose. The league stated in a press release that Guduric and Jackson have been suspended as a result of they left the bench throughout the incident. In addition to the point guard's discipline, Marcus Morris Sr. was fined for his part in the melee and his postgame comments referring to Crowder as "women-like".
Things got even worse afterward, when Payton said he'd do the same thing again and Morris mocked Crowder for playing with "female tendencies".
The fracas began close to the top of a contentious matchup, which the Knicks misplaced, 127-106. Payton, clearly unhappy, ran up to Crowder and shoved him to the ground.
"We understand the NBA's decision to fine and suspend Elfrid Payton, as well as fine Marcus Morris Sr. for their behavior during last night's game", the Knicks said in a statement. "While we do believe his apology was honest, that type of speech does not reflect the values of respect and inclusion that our organization stands for, and cannot be tolerated". And like I said, it's a man's game and you just get exhausted of it, man. Morris, who received a technical foul and was ejected from the game, has been fined $35,000 for escalating an on-court altercation by shoving Morant and for offensive and derogatory comments made to the media following the game.
This is still the New York Knicks we're talking about so please be careful if you think they're going to do what's best for their own franchise and a player.
That left the speaking duties for interim coach Mike Miller, who took over David Fizdale after a 4:18 start.
Should Ntilikina miss the game, Miller will have to figure out who plays point guard for the second unit. Payton will serve his suspension Saturday when the Knicks visit the Indiana Pacers at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
